My Seven Favorite wordsThe words whose utterances or thoughts bring fresh oxygen to my brain. Explaining why seems stupid. Here goes the list.
Physics
Beauty
Nature
Life
God
Mazhai (Rain)
Amma (Mom)
My Four Celebrity Crushes:Kousalya: This one was my first 'serious childhood' crush. Was so mad about her after watching Nerukku Ner and felt real bad that i wouldn't be able to marry her. Alright. Not a very good taste, i now feel. Poor child. Forgive him.
Asin: I am saying for the millionth time, first time in a Blog, that I predicted this girl will one day make it big in the tinsel-world after seeing her in an ad for the textile shop Hayagrivas. I was thirteen back then, i guess. She still looks great. Many say her acting has become like a recorded thing- "Limited meals", Cartoonist Madan called her;running around the hero trying to look and sound funny. But it stays. She still looks great.
Jo: Hmmm.. Damn surya.
Lindsay Lohan: I wish i was her Herbie.
My Six Favorite random things:
My PC: This guy had been with us for about seven years. The starting few years were literally hell with one problem after another-mostly software related. There have been instances when the technicians leave saying, "Can't do anything. Better format and reinstall OS". I had sat and sorted out the problems myself, silently speaking to it. After having encountered them all, i now realize its sort of a relationship; something a couple realize after fifteen-twenty years of fighting and hugging. "Oh! We've made this far together."
Laptop: This is a new arrival that my sis bought from the US. Nowadays i am mostly with it-reading ebooks, browsing the net, blogging.
My Bike: Discover 135. My best friend actually. Doesn't speak much. Very curt. Have a lot of exploring-the-world to do with this one.
Our Refrigerator: I raid this thing a few thousand times a day. Each time, it manages to offer me something. My big round belly says "thanks".
My cycle: I am happy to see that vatsan has also included his cycle as one among his five favorite things. This one's a five geared chick attracting looks from many-especially my Discover. He's in love with her, i found out recently-
Everytime i take her out, its along that long route i mentioned in the post below- "Wow. What a wonderful Evening".
Books: Should i explain? Most of my most pleasurable hours were spent in their company.
Thinking about these things suggest why i am not a people-oriented guy. So many "things" have kept me company.
My Five Favorite Fictional Characters:
1.Dumbledore -: What a brilliant character Rowling has sculpted! Such a cool, composed, humorous and intelligent one. Just the way i want to be in the future.
(I am straight though! :D )
"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
"Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!" -This one in particular is awesome! THE BEST!
P.S: Richard Harris was much better. Gambon has killed Dumbledore's character by getting all excited and loud even in silly circumstances when the real one doesnt so much as wink under the sudden appearance of The Dark Lord himself. Thank god Rowling decided to kill him in the sixth part. Two more parts of torturing his character seems unimaginable.
other favorite fictional characters:
2. Severus Snape
3. Ian Malcolm
4.Swami!! (from RK.Narayan's Swami and Friends)
An excerpt.
"Swaminathan sat in his father's room in a chair,
with a slate in his hand and pencil ready. Father held the arithmetic book open and dictated: "Rama has ten mangoes with which he wants to earn fifteen annas. Krishna wants only four mangoes. How much will Krishna have to pay?"'
Swaminathan gazed and gazed at this sum, and every time he read it,it seemed to acquire a new meaning. He had the feeling of having stepped into a fearful maze. . . . His mouth began to water at the thought of mangoes. He wondered what made Rama fix fifteen annas for ten mangoes. What kind of a man was Rama? Probably he was like Sankar. Somehow one couldn't help feeling that he must have been like Sankar, with his ten mangoes and his iron determination to get fifteen annas. If Rama was like Sankar, Krishna must have been like the Pea. Here Swaminathan felt an unaccountable sympathy for Krishna.
'Have you done the sum?' father asked, looking over the newspaper he was reading.
'Father, will you tell me if the mangoes were ripe?'
.....
'Look here, boy. I have half a mind to thrash you. What have you in your head? Ten mangoes cost fifteen annas. What is the price of one? Come on. If you don't say it—' His hand took Swaminathan's ear and gently twisted it. Swaminathan could not open his mouth because he could not decide whether the solution lay in the realm of addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. The longer he hesitated, the more violent the twist was becoming. In the end when father was waiting with a scowl for an answer, he received only a squeal from his son. 'I am not going to leave you till you tell me how much a single mango costs at fifteen annas for ten.'
What was the matter with father? Swaminathan kept blinking. Where was the urgency to know its price? Anyway, if father wanted so badly to know, instead of harassing him, let him go to the market and find it out."
:D
5. Vasanth ( of the Ganesh-Vasanth series of Sujatha) I have laughed continuously and intermittently reading his part of the dialogue in Sujatha's Ganesh-Vasanth novels; have spent hours in renga lending library sweating and searching for Sujatha books in this series-You have to stand up and leave space during every "Excuse me" of the passers-by; Such a congested place it was; and partly, is- all the sweating out, just to enjoy Vasanth's role in them.

ReplyDeleteIt should be an accident i guess....
Don't you remember borrowing the book from me during the AL in-plant training? x-(
ReplyDeleteThough Michael Gambon isn't my fav actor, he sure drives like hell.. While going round the Top Gear Test Track, he rode his car on two wheels!! The incident became so famous, a curve on the track was name after him.. :P
ReplyDeleteBtw, most of our fav random things match..:)
Then he should better concentrate on driving instead of playing the character of someone he doesn't understand. :x
