A Wednesday- A Review

Lot of movies in the "unseen movies" folder of my External-HDD. Didn't get around to watch any due to my lethargy. That's the height of joblessness. No urge to do even things that are 'normally' considered enjoyments. You should push yourselves to do it. Hmm.. You wouldn't understand. It's like trying to understand a modern art piece. You either get it instantly or you keep staring at it dumbfounded.
There is this guy named Shrinivas in an orkut community who regularly gives a brief review of films he watches in a related thread of that community. A horrible movie buff not leaving anything from japanese to russian. A huge tarkovsky fan- I watched Tarkovsky's "The Mirror" and my brain cells paused functioning for a few hours not sure how they should react. Following him, i'm planning to post mini-reviews of movies i watch from now on.

"A Wednesday".
Plot - A bomb threat call to the commissioner. Four terrorists in captive are the part of the bargain and... an unexpected twist. An all-round good movie. A no-nonsense one. Performance of Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah are flawless; the latter with his cool composed demeanor presents a formidable picture as a terrorist suspect, rather than the ones screaming their heads off in most other films. Cinematography is great. Reminded me of our "Momentary Respite" days. MR was a short film Gokul and myself worked on. I am sort of obsessed with trains and railway stations which was one of the main spots the camera focussed on in this movie. That building top also presented a magnificent sight with Naseeruddin calmly sipping tea from the flask watching the buzzing city beneath.
The one thing that upset me about the film is the huge hollywood influence. One person in the middle of few tens of real-serious guys relentlessly typing on their keyoards. "Let's get back to work guys!!", he'd shout as the camera goes up..
A college drop out internet freak wearing a cap turned back is a must; i didn't mention about his chewing gum right? Anyway talking to his gf infront of the commissioner is too much. The sudden mood shift after Naseeruddin- The common man- gives his speech is so cinematic.
The climax scene where Anupam and Naseeruddin shake hands reminded me of the meeting of Kane and Abel (Jeffrey Archer); Goose bumps for no reason.
As a whole (i hate typing this but i am forced to go with the conventions of review writing), its a nice thriller with less shit; Good cinematography and sensibility in the screenplay;
Waiting to see how Kamal fares up in the thamizh version.
