Viswaroopam - Just another case of Kamal trying hard to make a movie with a heavy subject and failing.
The worst thing about the movie is it's not complete bullshit like
Manmadhan Ambu. For the first time, a Thamizh movie has shown
Afghanistan in its true essence - scenes of the majestic himalayan
ranges, Talibans, their jehadi, their gory killings, their kids and
their human side. Also the Counter-Terrorist rescue mission. Salutes to
Kamal for these gems.
The initial dance class shots and the one
inside the warehouse where Kamal stops acting coward and takes out a
bunch of thugs in seconds- Pure brilliance! (That aside, why would a guy
-Shankar Mahadevan- sing a Gopiyar type song?)
Then the film has this completely stinky part in the US with that new
actress compulsively holding to the Tambrahm slang gone extinct a
million years back, Kamal acting out the conventional macho protagonist
evading cops, the bad asses and their bullets, the Prime Minister
calling and congratulating him (seriously??) and finally deactivating
the bomb without so much of a struggle. Someone has to go tell him that
his Dasavatharam actually sucked and that it is a very bad idea to keep
having scenes and characters in his new movies getting inspired from
that.
And why would a guy from RAW stay in a foreign country,
convert to a different religion, learn dance, act effeminate to the
point of his wife deciding to have an affair try to save that country
from some dirty bomb when all the dirty stuff keep happening in Mumbai
and our Parliament.?
Viswaroopam is a bread with a crust that's much thicker than the sponge but you don't want to miss tasting the sponge.
